$22 million judgment, business cross-complaint, 1997
A group of Taiwanese real estate investors sued a local real estate developer, alleging fraud and damages of $11 million. The developer’s business attorney referred the matter to The Meenan Lariviere Law Firm to defend against these claims and prosecute a cross-complaint for breach of contract, fraud, etc. Turning the tables, The Meenan Lariviere Law Firm obtained a dismissal of the complaint and a $22 million judgment for the local developer on his cross-complaint. The driver of a Ford Aerostar van became quadriplegic when a blowout of a defective Dunlop Axiom tire caused a loss of control of the van, which rolled over on I-15 in Victorville, California. $2.1 million settlement, negligence, wrongful death of minor, 2001
An unattended utility cart rolled down an incline in the playground of a Los Angeles Unified School District campus, killing a seven year old student. The Meenan Lariviere Law Firm obtained a $2.1 million pre-trial settlement from the District on behalf of the child’s parents. Silva v. A trailer truck failed to stop for a traffic signal at the end of a freeway off ramp and crashed into a car operated by an on-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detective. The 20-year veteran was unable to continue working as a detective as a result of her injuries. The Meenan Lariviere Law Firm obtained a $2.8 million pre-trial settlement on behalf of the detective for her personal injuries, medical expenses and lost wages that included reimbursement to the County of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association of a substantial part of the benefits they had paid to the detective. In this disputed liability case, the parents of a 16 year old driver alleged that a roofing company truck failed to stop for a red traffic signal and collided with their son's pickup truck, killing him in April 2003.
